Michigan

Second on the list is Michigan, affectionately called the “Wolverine State” or the “Great Lakes State.” This state is known for its great fishing spots, thanks to the longest freshwater coastline in the U.S.

Indiana

Nicknamed the “Hoosier State” because Gov. Joseph Wright started calling flatboatmen transporting corn to New Orleans “Hoosa” which, according to him meant corn in India.

Kansas

Known as the “Sunflower State”, Kansas is known for its rolling Great Plains and, of course, the classic children’s book “The Wizard of Oz.”

Iowa

Next on the list is Iowa, also known as the “Hawkeye State.” This Midwestern state is famous for its never-ending fields of corn and farms. The state has a total debt of $52,688 that is helped by the state’s commitment to end debt.
